IIT’s all over India has been hailed as one of the premier engineering institutes of India. The IIT JEE exam is a national level exam for admission to IIT’s for class 12 students. IIT students have performed well in their college and have been placed in top-tier companies.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is an institute parallel to IIT. The entrance exam for BITS Pilani is the only exam in India to assess students in logical reasoning and English language skills. Students who pass out of BITS Pilani have been placed in top-tier companies and are doing an incredible job.

An important factor to achieve success is the entrepreneurial culture at a campus. Students from IIT’s have been founders of many prestigious startups in India and other countries. IIT alumni generate revenue of $1 trillion worldwide. Almost 175,000 IIT Alumni who have passed out in the last 54 years have created 15 million jobs for people. BITS Pilani graduates have been founders of many successful companies. BITS Pilani offers better exposure and developments to its pass outs. BITS Pilani is better than IIT as startups from BITS can find in-house angel investors under The Spark Angel Program.

Across the IITs, about 6500 engineers graduated in 2014. BITS Pilani had 2000 engineer graduates which are 1/3rd less than IIT’s. There are more IITians than BITS only because they are greater in number.

According to the placement report of BITS Pilani, the highest salary package was offered for Rs 40 lakhs for domestic jobs. The average salary package was Rs 9.75 lakhs. The lowest salary package was Rs 275,000. The highest domestic package in IIT was 42 lakhs. The average salary package was Rs 13 lakhs and the lowest salary package was Rs 7.36 lakhs in IIT.

BITS Pilani has a well-planned and structured campus, libraries, and hostels. The college offers a unique concept where the students can take tutorial sessions from various teachers. Many experts believe that BITS Pilani adapts faster to the education sector than IIT. IIT students study engineering drawing while BITS students are trained in AutoCAD for engineering graphics.

IIT’s are run by the government. B. Tech students in the general category pay Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 per semester. For hostel and mess facilities, students have to pay Rs 30,000 more for one semester. BITS Pilani fee is expensive than IIT’s. Students will have to pay Rs 89,500 per semester. The hostel fee in BITS is Rs 6500 per semester. Many education experts feel BITS Pilani is justified charging higher fees as the institution is out of government interference and they try to provide better infrastructure and better faculty to the students.

IIT campus and BITS Pilani campus have the quality infrastructure. But the new IIT’s do not have permanent campuses and they are facing a lot of problems regarding their faculties and infrastructure. BITS Pilani does not have many campuses like IIT but the campuses are well established and they are known to upgrade their world-class infrastructure on a yearly basis.

BITS Pilani has an excellent faculty from India and abroad. They offer better salaries and more freedom for the teaching staff. But in IIT’s there are a lot of faculty crunches and those issues become media highlights causing damage to the brand of IIT. IIT’s have started new campaigns to attract graduates and post-doctorates from top universities to join in their faculty positions.

Many experts in the field of education and industry feel that the top 6 IIT’s and BITS Pilani are on the same level. Some experts feel that BITS Pilani is better than the newly established IIT’s. So the sensible choice is to choose BITS Pilani over IIT’s.
