The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET (for undergraduates) is a national-level entrance exam for students seeking admission in medical colleges of India. Students usually prepare all year round for the exam during their 11th and 12th std, while some of them start preparing as soon as they enter 6th grade. Whatever the case may be, everyone has to follow some procedures before the beginning of the exam.

As per the  NEET 2021 exam pattern, the paper consists of 3 subjects- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Physics and Chemistry each consists of 45 questions making it a total of 90 questions and Biology (Zoology + Botany) consists of 90 questions making it a subtotal of 180 questions.

All the questions are of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) type with each question having 4 different options to mark as the answer. Every question attempted correctly is awarded 4 marks. Questions left blank are provided with 0 marks while each question attempted incorrectly deducts 1 mark because of the negative marking system. This makes guessing the answers really tough. The time allotted for the paper is 180 minutes ie 3 hours.

Given that it’s a national-level exam, it’s needless to say that its difficulty is quite high. So much so that people even drop out for an entire year after finishing the 12th std to aim for a better score to get admitted into their dream college. There is a tense atmosphere as the exam nears and gradually, the tension increases as the days pass by until the exam day arrives. Due to this, there is a chance that students may forget the simple things and guidelines that must be followed just before the exams.

Relax and Stay Calm

Even though some amount of anxiety and stress before the day of the exam is inevitable, it can always be kept to a minimum. As long as you have prepared well, there is nothing to worry about as the hard work you have put in will bear fruit. Too much pressure before the exams will only have a negative effect on your score and hinder your performance. Just relax, stay cool and spend the entire day with a calm mind so that carrying out other things doesn’t become difficult.

Eat a Balanced Meal

Diet is a necessary part of maintaining good physical health as well as mental health. It is highly advisable to strictly eat a balanced meal for a few days before the exam. This way, the brain gets proper nourishment. It’s also best not to eat out or order food from a restaurant so that there is a minimum chance of food poisoning or falling ill.

Do some Physical Activities

Don’t just get cramped up on the table till you get completely exhausted. Take short breaks, go out for a stroll or walk around, do yoga in the morning and exercise a little in the evening or play something. This is very essential for maintaining focus and get the laziness out of the body.

Don’t Study too Much

Don’t study too much on the last day and do not overwork yourself. Avoid studying any new concepts or chapters. Just revise the stuff you feel is important and have a glance at the notes and summaries of the chapters. Don’t solve too many questions or pay too much attention to difficult topics. Just sit back and relax for a while and be confident in everything that you have already studied.

Double Check the Documents and Admit Card

Admit cards and identity proves are the most important things for sitting in the exam hall. Strict identity checks are performed at the center before letting the students enter the examination hall. If there is an error, the candidates aren’t allowed to enter the hall so always make sure not to forget the identity and admit card at home. Other than that, always check your pockets thoroughly for any unwanted materials. It has been observed that some students go as far as to use unfair means in the exam. If caught, the paper is not counted for the evaluation and the candidate loses the qualification to sit in other national-level exams in the future. If another candidate talks during the exam, do not respond to him/her.

It is advisable to carry a water bottle to the exam as the examination center may or may not provide drinking water. Never go for the paper on an empty stomach or a full stomach. Always eat something light at home before leaving for the examination center.

These are the important things needed to be kept in mind on the exam day. All the best!
